Most next-generation solid adsorbents have promising laboratory data. Few have been tested independently, repeatedly, and under the conditions that actually exist in industrial operation: humid flue gas, acid gases, oxygen, variable temperatures, and multi-cycle stress.
CALF-20 has. More than 40 independent research groups across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia have published studies confirming its performance. The foundational paper, published in Science, has been downloaded more than 100,000 times. That body of evidence is public, peer-reviewed, and available for any technical team to examine.
CALF-20 captures CO2 through physisorption. Physical interactions hold CO2 molecules efficiently during capture and release them with much lower energy demands than chemical sorbents require. The mechanism holds up under real industrial conditions, including water vapor, SOx, NOx, and oxygen without extensive flue gas dehydration. This means lower regeneration energy, lower total cost of capture, and performance that does not require idealized gas preconditioning.

Adrien Côté
CEO and co-founder
Adrien Côté builds commercial pathways for advanced materials. His background spans inorganic chemistry research, 50+ patents from materials scale-up at Xerox, and leading one of Canada’s most active startup commercialization programs. His postdoctoral research was conducted in a laboratory that later produced a Nobel laureate in Chemistry for metal-organic frameworks.

George Shimizu
CTO and co-founder
George Shimizu is the inventor CALF-20 and is Professor of Chemistry at the University of Calgary. He drives materials from discovery-driven research at TRL 0 through industrial deployment at TRL 9. His understanding of CALF-20 runs from its molecular design to its industrial deployment. He is the recipient of many research and industrial innovation awards.
